Labs in the Department

The department has spacious laboratories with state- of- the- art equipment.

The equipment in each laboratory is continuously upgraded and supplemented to more than meet the curricular norms.

Laboratories are housed in an area of over 2,500 sqm.

The various laboratories in the department are:

  • Thermodynamics
  • Heat Transfer
  • Hydraulic Machines
  • Metallurgy
  • CAD/CAM
  • Metrology and Instrumentation
  • Metal Cutting and Machine Tools
  • Manufacturing Processes
  • Metal Forming Lab.

Thermal labs have a variety of Petrol and Diesel engines, Computer Controlled IC Engine Test Rig Axial Flow Fan, Cascade Wind Tunnel, Steam Boiler and heat transfer test rigs, Oil fired steam boiler.

Production laboratory facilities include large number of Precision lathes, Turret & Spinning lathes, EDM, Cylindrical & Surface Grinding, Tool cutter Grinder, and Dynamo meters.

Metrology Lab instruments include profile projector, LVDT, surface finishing machines and Tool Makers Microscope.

Manufacturing Processes lab has moulding, Sand- testing, TIG, MIG, Butt & Spot welding equipment.

Metallurgy lab is well furnished with surface finishing machines, furnaces and microscopes including an image capture camera and analysis software, Magnetic particle testing equipmen.

Kaplan, Pelton and Francis Turbines, Hydraulic & Pneumatic trainer kits and various pump test rigs are available in Hydraulic machines laboratory.

The CAD/CAM laboratory has 55 latest IBM systems and modelling software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, MDT, Inventor, CATIA, Pro/E WildFire3, Edgecam and ANSYS CFX.

CAM facility includes a Flexible Manufacturing system with a CNC Lathe and Milling Machines, Robot Arm, Loading and unloading device and Shuttle Conveyor.

Many of the final year student projects are carried out in collaboration with R & D laboratories such as DMRL, DRDL, Midhani, BDL, NFC and IICT.
